- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA must read for those Boomers and Gen X'ers that grew up listening, and loving and maybe even working in Top 40 AM (and eventually Top 40 FM) radio. Tommy Edwards may still be best known for being part of the legendary WLS Chicago during it's 70s and 80s heyday. Later in that era he teamed up with "Super Jock" Larry Lujack for what would become a segment of Larry's show called Animal Stories. A funny bit that took on a life of it's own, spawned its own collection of recordings purchased by fans to benefit charity. Being a Chicago native of a certain age this is the Tommy I knew. However, I had no idea of the success he also enjoyed in L.A. N.Y.C. and Boston until I read this. That includes his long time gig as P.A. announcer for the Chicago Bulls. Perhaps most revealing was the described personal relationship he had with Larry Lujack. The chapter with Larry revealing his illness and opening up to Tommy on a personal topic made me a bit misty eyed. An easy, interesting read that reminded me why I got into "the biz", and made me long for the glory days of compelling Music Radio (cue jingle).
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseFor those of us who grew up in the Chicago area and listened to Larry Lujack and Uncle Tommy, this book
will bring back a lot of memories. These two men were great together. And, who can forget Animal
Stories. I think I still have an Animal Stories tshirt from WLS.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2020Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseMany of us who grew up in the 70s and 80s were fortunate enough to hear "Animal Stories" with Larry Lujack and Tommy Edwards, the best and most entertaining show that'll ever be heard on the radio! Tommy has been one of my favorite radio personalities since 1980. I couldn't put this book down. Read it in two evenings! If you haven't bought it yet, you should. Great stories! You get a lot of "behind the scenes" insight into how the business of radio works, all the way from his small town beginnings n Topeka, to his work at some of the biggest radio stations in Boston, NYC, Chicago, and LA.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2021Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseGreat book, had no idea about how highly regarded he was in the world of radio. And there were Larry Lujak stories that had me laughing so hard I was in tears. I was also surprised to see that he had connections to an old neighbor of mine in here in Central Illinois, who is an Senior Executive VP at WBBM sports radio in Chicago. If your a radio fan of the 50's, 60's and 70's and beyond this is a must read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2020Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseEveryone is interested in the period and place where they heard Tommy Edwards talk and tease on radio. His book covers all his career from Topeka on to DC, Boston, NYC, Chicago, LA and probably a few I've forgotten. Readers of this book will probably dive into the section they know best, but it's worthwhile to read the whole book...it is truly a glimpse of "inside radio" from a guy who has been at the top of his game throughout his career. WLS in Chicago gets the fattest chapter, as it should. Fans of Animal Stories won't be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2022Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseCover to Cover the book was great, I interviewed Tommy Edwards back in 1968 for my High School Newspaper and he is still the funny, thoughtful person today

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2020Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI grew up listening to Tommy Edwards, Larry Lujak, and countless others on the radio. One of my favorite bits was their telling of “Animal Stories.” Now Little Snot Nosed Tommy tells the stories behind those stories, plus many more from his storied career behind the microphone. If you enjoyed listening to major market radio in the 20th Century, you’ll enjoy reading this reminiscence about it in the 21st!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2021Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI always enjoyed Li’l Tommy and Uncle Lar’s Animal Stories on WLS. His life was so much more, and it was interesting to see where he had been. Also, some personal insight on “Superjock” Larry Lujack. Very worthwhile.
